They asked her how she could know him
When he didn’t know her,
Asked her how she could trust him
When he was out there with another.
They asked her why she spent time with him
Even though they’d never met.
She told them he wasn’t a stranger
But it was something they just couldn’t get.
Nor could they fathom why she called him saviour
When he too was filled with sin.
She told them he gave her hope
And how much she believed in him.
They asked her how he could mean so much
When the feelings weren’t returned,
Asked her how she could love him
But they’d never understand.
